Radikal Forze, having been around since 1998 will be celebrating their 11th year anniversary come 14th March 2009. The crew, is spearheaded by leader Bboy Felix and the crew has accomplished many achievements both locally and abroad.
This 14 man crew also has overseas chapters from the U.K (Bboy Mouse) and Seoul, South Korea (Bboy Nauty1 and Bogus). Radikal Forze first came in contact with Bboy Mouse when he was the judge for the Singapore bboy championship 2007 and met Nauty1 in Korea for Battle of the year Asia in 2007. Both of them had the same mentality towards the dance, and were very easy to talk to, and very humble, even though they were “beasts” on the dance floor. Both of them had also heard of “RF” prior to meeting the crew in person, and vice versa, which made talking forthe first time seem like they already had been friends for awhile.
After talking and hanging out and getting the chance to dance more together in the very short time that they had, both of them at separate times had requested to be part of the family. And since the two of them had the same mentality for the dance, they became closer as friends with RF, and RF had a discussion about it amongst the crew, and since then have decided to put them down as their international chapters.
After the major success of last year’s anniversary jam, the crew will be having their next jam on a greater scale and reaching out to more bboys from around the world. This year, crews from Taiwan, Australia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, USA and others including local crews will be in attendance and competing in a knock out tournament. This jam will be a great opportunity for Bboys and Bgirls to mingle, catch up, exchange ideas, to vibe off or to be just plainly inspired by the worldwide talent that will be heading down.
One of the main reasons for organising the jam apart from commemorating the crew being around for eleven years and still ahead of the game was to improve the local scene by bringing in international bboys. Many local bboys don’t get much opportunity to travel and thus lack the experience that comes with it. Singapore, in the opinion of Felix Singapore has the potential to be the hub of bboying in Asia.
In Singapore, the bboyng scene is growing very rapidly, and there are a lot of promising youths that are improving fast and, their love for the dance is growing as well. Some of the other bboys who have been around for a while are also starting to contribute to the scene by holding jams, which is a great thing. As long as there is unity, healthy competition, and support for the scene, it will definitely continue to grow.
Felix also said that Bboys should always know that the dance is a dance that they will spend their entire lives learning. There isn’t a master of the dance, or one person who is totally right. That is why it is an art form. He also encourages being creative in evolving the foundational steps after mastering them and also to continuously push and drive oneself to improve.
He also feels that an obvious trend today is that a lot of bboys are trying too hard to hit the beats. It’s not a wrong thing to do, but more importantly what the movements are that are being used to hit the beats, how you flow into the movements, how you interpret the music that is playing into movements in bboying. He believes that learning to flow better in a run is more important than just hitting obvious.
The downside to this can be that a lot of the newer bboys would just concentrate too much on hitting the beats, instead of building their foundations of the dance and by foundations, it means everything from toprocks, drops, floorwork, freezes, and even powermoves.
Lastly, but most importantly he urges bboys to travel to other countries for their jams, and always have fun b-boying.
All events, ranging from big to small all need support to be a success. In order to have a scene to call our own, we need to support our own jams or events. The RF anniversary jam would be the biggest bboy event this year. To see the different styles across Asia & beyond, to gain experience by being in a cypher or competition with all the international bboys, to form a closer bond between the local and international bboys, to learn, to interact and tohave fun, make sure to be down for Radikal Forze’s B-boy Jam 2009 on Saturday the 14th of March at Zouk(17 Jiak Kim Street, Singapore). Tickets are priced at S$15 and can be purchased at the door. For more information contact Felix at info@radikalfrozecrew.com or call (+65) 93626111.
